About Me

Hello, and welcome to Nature is my Jam! My name is Darrin Wassom, and I’m a field recordist. As a field recordist, I use specialized recording devices and microphones to capture natural sounds. I also use photography and videography to further capture the environment where the sounds originate. The sounds of nature, such as the chirping of birds and the howling of coyotes, are fascinating and important to me, and I prefer to record them in places where human activity is minimal. I’ve been involved in field recording since 2012, but my interest in photography and filmmaking dates back to 2005.

Besides my work, I’m a passionate animal lover and the proud fur father of four dogs and ten cats, who bring me joy and love. I have been married to the love of my life, Rhonda, since 2002. Before I started recording natural sounds, I worked in cybersecurity and specialized in ensuring the security of computer information. I also served in the United States Army for 8 years. I hold a degree in Telecommunication: Information Services and Technology Management from Michigan State University.

I hope you find my work as interesting and meaningful as I do. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my work and my passions.
